From Halloween to the Holidays: Celebrate the Season in Augusta, Missouri
There’s something special about watching the seasons change here in Augusta. The vineyards trade their summer greens for autumn color, cooler evenings invite you to slow down, and before long, our little town begins to glow with the sights and sounds of Christmas.
October through December is one of my favorite times to welcome guests to H.S. Clay House. You can spend an afternoon exploring Wine Country, enjoy some of Augusta’s favorite fall traditions, celebrate Halloween with the community, and return a few weeks later to experience one of the most magical events of the year—the Augusta Candlelight Christmas Walk.
If you’re looking for an excuse to plan one more getaway before the end of the year, there is plenty happening in Augusta.
🎃 Halloween Fun in Augusta Wine Country
Halloween isn’t just for the kids in Augusta. Wine Country gets into the spirit, too!
On Saturday, October 24, the Wicked Wine Hop takes over four Augusta wineries—Augusta Winery, Balducci Vineyards, Montelle Winery and Mount Pleasant Estates. From 11:30 AM to 7 PM, visitors can make their way around Wine Country enjoying live music, food and drink specials, vendors and costume contests.
There is even a spooky cellar tour at Mount Pleasant and a Pumpkin Passport that encourages you to visit each participating winery. Costumes are encouraged, so gather your friends and make an afternoon of it.
And if you aren’t ready for the evening to end, the Augusta Ramble brings the Kingdom Brothers to the Augusta Harmonie Verein that night from 7–10 PM.
👻 Halloween Night in Augusta
The following weekend brings Halloween itself, and this is where you can experience some of the small-town charm that makes Augusta such a fun place to visit.
On Saturday, October 31, the annual Augusta Halloween Open House takes place from 5:30–8:30 PM at the Augusta Town Hall area. Everyone is welcome, and the evening includes costumes along with a community potluck featuring chili, soup and snacks.
It’s a wonderfully simple Augusta tradition—neighbors, visitors, families and friends gathering together in town on Halloween night.
Earlier in the day, you can also spend some time enjoying the wineries before heading into town for the evening. It’s an easy way to turn Halloween into a full Wine Country weekend rather than just a Saturday night out.
🍂 One More Taste of Fall
November doesn’t mean Wine Country shuts down. In fact, there’s another major Augusta event waiting just after Halloween.
The Augusta Bottoms Festival returns Saturday, November 7, bringing together local wine, beer and spirits along with live music, food trucks and vendors. It’s designed as a family-friendly festival and gives visitors another chance to enjoy Augusta before the Christmas season officially gets underway.
You can also keep your Wine Country weekend going with stops at area wineries, local shops and restaurants. Pasta Friday at Balducci Vineyards returns November 13, giving you another reason to make dinner part of your Augusta getaway.
November can be a wonderful time to visit. The busy harvest season has passed, the temperatures are cooler, and Augusta begins making the transition from fall into Christmas.
🎁 Christmas Comes Early to Wine Country
🕯️ The 44th Annual Augusta Candlelight Christmas Walk
If there is one holiday tradition worth planning an Augusta getaway around, this is it.
The 44th Annual Augusta Candlelight Christmas Walk returns on Friday, December 4 and Friday, December 11, 2026.
The Christmas Walk has become one of Augusta’s signature traditions and a wonderful way to experience our town during the holidays. It’s the kind of evening that feels perfectly at home in a historic town like Augusta—Christmas decorations, lights, local businesses and visitors filling the community with holiday spirit.
Come early and spend the afternoon exploring the wineries or shopping around town. Then, as evening arrives, enjoy the Christmas Walk before returning to H.S. Clay House for the night.
If you’ve been looking for something different from the usual holiday crowds and shopping centers, this is the Augusta Christmas experience I recommend putting on your calendar.
🏠 Make a Weekend of It: December 11–12
The second Christmas Walk weekend may be particularly worth planning around this year.
Start Friday, December 11 with a day in Wine Country. Balducci Vineyards is holding its monthly Pasta Friday that day, and the second Augusta Candlelight Christmas Walk takes place Friday evening.
Then stay overnight because another Augusta holiday tradition follows on Saturday.
The Holiday House Tour is scheduled for December 12. Additional details are still to come, but the date has already been announced by the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
That gives you the makings of a wonderful Christmas weekend:
- Friday, December 11: Explore Wine Country, enjoy dinner and experience the Candlelight Christmas Walk.
- Saturday, December 12: Slow down over breakfast, explore Augusta and enjoy the Holiday House Tour.
- Throughout the weekend: Visit wineries, shop locally, enjoy the countryside and leave yourself a little time to simply relax.
🎄 Spend the Holidays at H.S. Clay House
Fall and Christmas feel a little different in a small town.
There aren’t endless crowds or giant attractions competing for your attention. Instead, you can wander through Augusta, visit our wineries, discover local businesses, enjoy seasonal events and actually have time to spend with the people you came with.
